So, the Blarney Stone, I have discovered, is one of the greatest scam marketing campaigns in history.
A bunch of Irish plunderers raided the Middle East about 1100 BC. By the time they got there, all the good stuff was already taken, so they brought back a large rock and claimed it had magical powers of some type. They stuck it into the top wall of the local castle and for 900 years people have been lining up to pay money to kiss it.
A few things I discovered: 1. The Blarney Stone is embedded in a castle wall 6 stories in the air (nothing below). 2. You have to lay on your back and have someone help lower you upside down to kiss it ( a service they provide). 3. You pay to do it. 4. The line to do this goes on for hours.
I declined on the grounds that acquiring airborne super-herpes is not on my bucket list, especially for twelve bucks.
However, the Grounds of Blarney Castle are incredibly cool. They have a Poisoner’s Garden with hundreds of deadly plants. Handy for the nobility to have around when a guest overstays their welcome ( see pic below ). They do sell a seed kit so you can create your own at home. A must have Christmas gift. I will be trying to get mine thru customs.
